He needs his fantasy and freedom…

This song was written by ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus and EGOT-winning lyricist Tim Rice for the musical Chess. Chance reached out to his friend and fellow musical lover AJ Rafael about recording the song, pitching it to him and to producer G // Basco as his Peabo Bryson / “Go the Distance” / “When You Believe” fantasy. The result is the end credits rhapsody from a beautiful 90s gay romantic drama centering Black and brown boys that surely exists somewhere out in the multiverse, complete with a blistering guitar solo by Cory Clark.

The proceeds from this song benefit The Trevor Project, which combats the hatred, fear and ignorance that have prematurely ended the lives of so many LGBTQIA+ youth while providing a safe space for them, whether they’re out, closeted, or questioning.
